Need and methods of frenuloplasty

Frenuloplasty consists of two words frenula (bridle) and plastic, we get — frenuloplasty. This surgical intervention is required to eliminate the pathological effect on the periodontium of abnormally attached lip and tongue frenulums, which can lead to the emergence of new diseases of the teeth and gums. >

  • A short frenulum leads to wide gaps between teeth.
  • A wide frenulum leads to accumulation of food debris under it, which damage the gums, causing them to bleed.
  • Recessions (displacement of the gums with exposure of the root of the tooth) gums.
  • Bloating.
  • Frenuloplasty techniques 1. Y-shaped frenuloplasty

The Y-shaped technique involves, after applying local anesthesia, excision of an inadequately attached frenulum with gingival scissors or a scalpel, after which the mucous membrane adjacent to the incision is cut along the edges and moved with a thin raspator. Then it is fixed to the periosteum with catgut, and the incision is tightly sutured.

    2. Limberg's Z-shaped frenuloplasty

The Z-shaped technique involves, after the application of local anesthesia, first a vertical incision is made in the middle of the frenulum, from which two more oblique incisions are made at an angle of 60-80 degrees. The resulting triangular flaps are fixed so that the central incision becomes horizontal. The mucous tissues are exfoliated from the periosteum with a raspator. The horizontal incision is tightly sutured with catgut, fixing the flaps to the periosteum. Then additional incisions are tightly sewn up.
